<description>To find some old good pieces of furniture, you need to play detective and you have to be resourceful. First find a rich neighborhood. Then find out the days when the residents throw out their furniture - the furniture pick-up days. I have found some gorgeous iron garden chairs this way that just needed reupholstering and since I knew how to do that, I picked them up. Of course it helps if you have a stationwagon or a van.

Another way to find furniture is to take out the penny circulars and circle the ads with yard and garage sales. Again it's better if you pick the better neighborhoods. Another friend of mine picked up baby furniture this way - such as an old crib that just needed repainting.

As for learning how to refurbish furniture, try your local Home Depot. Sometimes they offer classes on refinishing. At least ask one of their experts - sometimes you will find a true expert who can give free advice.
